One of the Most Versatile Spices in Ayurveda and the World: Fenugreek Seeds Powder

Fenugreek seeds

Fenugreek
is a unique and special herb, native to the Mediterranean, Europe, and Asia, used in Ayurveda for a long time. Fenugreek, which has similar antidiabetic potency to cinnamon, is one of the most important spices used by many for regulating glucose metabolism and, hence, preventing and treating type II diabetes.

Fenugreek seeds are used in medicine, but it's also used in many Indian dishes for their nutritional profile and slightly sweet, nutty taste, similar to the taste of maple syrup or sweet celery.

What is Fenugreek? (Methi Seeds, Leaves, Tea) + Side Effects - SelfDecode Supplements

Many people make teas with the leaves of the plant while some companies sell Fenugreek in the shape of pills as a herbal, dietary supplement. In this article, we're not focusing on the leaves, but the seeds (without the husks) of the Fenugreek (Methi) plant.

Fenugreek Seeds and Lactation

It's believed that Fenugreek increases the production of breast milk in mothers, and the good part is that no adverse effect has been mentioned or reported, compared to other "Natural Ways" of increasing breast milk production (Fenugreek).

Fenugreek and Testosterones

Many manufacturers promote Fenugreek Extract as a testosterone booster and Hair Loss treatment. A study has shown that Fenugreek, in fact, decreases the production of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is a hormone known to be responsible for early male and female hair loss. By using Fenugreek, the human body blocks the creation of DHT, reducing the possibilities of hair loss.

Fenugreek decreases DHT

The direct effects of Fenugreek in the production of Testosterones are still being investigated by the scientific community. However, some studies have shown that taking Fenugreek supplements may improve testosterone levels and symptoms related to low testosterone such as low libido

Fenugreek and Blood Sugar levels

It's being shown (Ranade, M., & Mudgalkar, N. (2017)) that consuming Fenugreek Seed in any way can help decrease the blood sugar levels. Not only it helps lower the sugar levels, but also helps in the long term by improving glucose tolerance, something helpful for diabetics and pre-diabetics. It also may help controlling the Cholesterol Levels in patients with pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes (J Ethnopharmacol, 2016).

People use Fenugreek Seed for other conditions like Menstrual Cramps, Sexual Problems, Obesity, Enlarged prostate, but there is not enough scientific evidence to back this uses.
